Remember last year's "Baywatch" headlines, when members of Congress found out
and protested that tax dollars were being used to caption the show?  They're
at it again.  Today's Washington Post TV Column by John Carmody reports that
senators Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.) and Dan Coats (R-Ind.) sent a letter to
Education Secretary Richard W. Riley protesting the funding of captions for
"The Jerry Springer Show".  

The Department of Education spokeswoman Julie Green responded that the
Department does not make editorial decisions when it awards captioning grants.
"It's not our role to censor programs that are available to the general
population," she said.
