Thanks for the reminder. I will be bringing with me Prof. Richard W. Adler of the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. He is hosting a Navy Noise and Interference Conference in Monterey 5-6 March 2001, and may mention it to your audience. Only a 1-page abstract is required, and the deadline for the abstracts is 20 Feb. 2001. Perhaps he can email you the meeting announcement and the call for papers. Dick also is an active ham, and I am sure he will enjoy meeting your colleagues. Incidentally, is Mike Toia one of the members? Mike is a friend, and also was the monitor of research on HF receiving antennas I did for VOA with O. G. (Mike) Villard, Jr., another active ham.

Dick and I have been talking about what might be an appropriate level for hams that have good technical skills to do regarding the FCC Noise Project.
I had thought that it was important to have some standardization of the systems taking the data. I further thought that the use of software-derived radios might be a way to get such standardization--when used with a "standard" noise antenna. This has a good chance to work in the bands of most interest to the FCC (400 MHz and above). The software-derived radios dont do so well at HF due to the large dynamic range requirements in the HF bands.

We (Dick and I) will try to get there a little early to meet you. So see you on Thursday night.

Regards,

George Hagn

George,

Just a reminder of the meeting at the Dolley Madison Branch Library, lower
floor meeting room. We have between 7:30 and 8:45 PM to devote to the
tape(s) and discussion, whatever fits.

Regards,
Paul
