The FCC is planning to showcase Ultra Wideband
technology to the public (and, particularly, the press) on February 13 at the
open Commissioners' Meeting. MSSI, Time Domain, XtremeSpectrum and an
unnamed GPR company have all been invited to bring equipment to the Commission
for demonstration. It is obvious that the
Commission plans to unveil its changes to the R&O on this date.

MSSI, for its part, will demonstrate several UWB
systems operating entirely above 6 GHz. Hopefully, this will demonstrate
that the Coalition's proposal to keep UWB above 6 is not a show stopper for the
technology.

We are still trying to submit one last filing into
the Commission before this date, to point out that it is NOT necessary to change
the R&O by relaxing emissions in the 960 - 1610 MHz band or, for that
matter, ANY restricted band. We have received support from our friends at
the US GPS Industry Council and from Synergent Technologies (authors of the
Agilent application notes on pulse measurements which the FCC has misquoted in
its Part 15 rules). We understand that NASA is also drafting a letter of
support to NTIA. We had hoped for support from ATA as well (which was
requested of us from the Commission), but ITU preparations have made that
difficult to obtain in time. Thus, we would
still like to ask that any company which can support our Petition for
Reconsideration, consider doing so before February 13 if at all possible.
This is more than an academic issue, and I would be happy to discuss it further
with your technical advisors.
