On 18 March, the American Museum of Natural History, in New York City, 
unveiled a new show, "Cosmic Collisions," about simultaneously 
destructive and creative catastrophes that have shaped not just the 
history of Earth, but entire galaxies. IEEE Spectrum got a sneak preview 
of the show and a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum's astrophysics 
department, where scientists researched the star formations featured in
