The October 2006 *IEEE eSCANNER* is now online with the following 
meetings and activities on the calendar for this month. To learn more

*Tuesday, October 3:* The Washington Section Administrative Committee 
will meet at the Marriott at 6711 Democracy Blvd. (NOT Pooks Hill Rd.), 
Bethesda, MD. The Washington Section will hold its annual elections at 
the November 7 meeting; please see the eScanner for details on the 
nomination procedure.

*Wednesday, October 11:* The Northern Virginia Section Administrative 
Committee Meeting will meet at Tuscan Grill (previously known as 
Wickers) in the Tysons Corner Holiday Inn, McLean, VA

*Wednesday-Friday, October 11-13:* Applied Imagery Pattern Recognition 
Workshop: Theory and Application of Model-based Image Analysis. 
Sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society. Washington, DC.

*Friday, October 13:* The Fall Power Fiesta will feature networking, 
food and fun. Sponsored by the National Capital Area Consultants? 
Network, Women in Engineering, Graduates of the Last Decade, Power 
Engineering Society, Industry Applications Society, and Life Members. 
Arlington, VA.

*Saturday-Sunday, October 14-15:* MPAC?WIE Conference: Meeting the 
Challenges of the 21st Century Engineer. Sponsored by IEEE Region 2; 
Northern Virginia, Washington, Baltimore, and Southern New Jersey 
sections; Women in Engineering affinity groups for each section. Embassy 
Suites Hotel, BWI Airport.

*Wednesday, October 25:* "What is the future of the Engineer? Service or 
Commodity" is the topic of a talk by Amarjeet Basra at a meeting of the 
Life Members affinity group. McLean, VA.
