6 Meter Packet Net

Tacoistas,

I have been talking with Tom Dawson, WB3AKD, who is the Loudoun County
Emergency Coordinator. I mentioned the mobile 6 meter rigs that AMRAD
has and how we are looking for an application.

He suggests that if we could outfit them as packet radios for data
transmission, they could be useful due to their potential to reach over
the county without any repeaters etc. He thinks 9600 baud would be fast
enough.

Glenn, K0ESA, has been interested in using these radios and thinks they
can reach longer distances than 2 meter rigs without repeaters.

Can we come up with a concept and do some testing and a demonstration?
Does someone have some packet TNCs we can try out?

Of course, if we can do higher data rates that would be even more useful.

Thoughts?
