Excellent article. When western politicians have digitized and  
sanitized everything broadcastable, let us hope that rogue nations  
world-wide will still be resolutely medium- and short-wave analogue.

I have a local radio station on medium-wave that broadcasts the  
popular music of my youth - 1950s, '60s, '70s - and I listen  
regularly for two reasons; (1) I like the nostalgia factor, and (2)  
it's the only MW station in my area broadcasting music. At night in  
my workshop, the signal on my 1950s valve portable shimmers and fades  
just like when I was a kid. And then some idiot comes on in the  
commercial break to tell me that I really should be listening on a  
DAB radio for clarity and fidelity. Now, I ask you - where's the  
nostalgia in that? If I wanted fidelity, I'd download all the old  
songs from iTunes and put them on a CD. But that's not radio, is it?
