Hi all,

  It’s now Thursday Morning

Hope we have enough advance time for this weekends experiment.

Got some minor changes cooking. So if this gets pointless personal so be it.

We all have a ‘life’ outside of ham radio and that life intrudes on what passes for free time.
Some of this is cut and paste from another note.
Here is what I have planed.

This is the weekend for the Timonium Maryland Ham Fest.
   http://www.gbhc.org/

It’s one of the large ones on this side of the country.
Got friends from New York coming down to sell and hang out.
I should be there for most of Saturday at the AMRAD table.
Parts of what I do outside of work is take old two way radios and convert them to the ham bands. In partnership with AMRAD and NVFMA we offer a package deal.
Buy a radio; get a membership in each club.
AMRAD helped me get the radios, and NVFMA has the area repeater.
It’s a fund raiser for the clubs, and I get to move hardware.
So I should be bringing about five or six radios to Timonium.

In parallel with that, a club in Lexington KY wants some of my radios.
Right now they have firm orders for four units. The glitch is time and distance.
One of their members is to meet me in western VA and that will save me hundreds of miles in driving.

This works well with the planed test.

The tentative plan is turn the beacon unit on Friday morning at 06:30 eastern.
Go to work in south DC.
Leave work Friday, drive to Sterling VA drop off some stuff.
Drive to Herndon VA, pick up the radios.
Head to Lexington VA and meet with the Kentucky contact guy there.
Then drive back home to Herndon Friday night.
Saturday at 06:00 go to Timonium Maryland, and do the show.
Sunday at 18:00 shut down the beacon station.

So during this test, there will be significant mobile in motion activity.

  Improvements and tweaks.

Those of you with beacon stations, kick them on!
One of our signals are going to bounce might as well be one of yours.
Those with base stations, if you can post any 'hits' you get here, that would be great.

  Message Box
I sent a note about this a moment ago. Bob B. had some ideas as to how the base stations should be set. What of the mobiles?
On the Byronics Software there is a space to inject a message.
Right now I have my mobile phone number and mention the station is EXP for experimental. What should be put in there?

Is there something we can do with the call signs to show this is a 6m experimental system?

  Interval
Is once every two minutes too often or not enough?
Was was thinking of making a change. But may not have enough time.
The trucks battery seems not to have suffered during the test, so more often is not a problem.

  Other projects.
I have more or less finished some side projects.
Pending minor items the two base station units are done.

Got two 100 watt base stations finished.

One went to K7BC in Northern Virginia last night.
This is the construction article on how it was done.
We can nit pick about the audio pick off’s but for the moment this will work.

They are big and clunky but the price was right.
Not a bad use for elderly radios.
In this photo you can see it actually catching a signal from the mobile in the truck.

Used a screw driver stuck in the antenna port.

On the mobile conversion, as of a moment ago, 380 some odd people have looked at this.

That’s just slick. I wonder how many people are actually thinking of building one.
I’ve made three in the last 30 days. Two on 2m and the one on 6m.
If anybody is going to build one, let me know how it turns out please.

  Please respond by using the

Forum. That way we can all stay on the same page.

  Thanks in advance.
  Mike
