A question for the assembled wizdum...

Fact pattern:
On my boat I have two identical Icom IC-M602 marine transceivers. 
The are fed by the same power source attached to a common +12 distribution point. 
The two power cables are short and the radios are side by side in the helm overhead.
Power ground buss is shared as well.  

The problem:
One radio, on the PORT side, has *significant* alternator whine (even with audo gain at zero and squelched).
The other radio, on the STB side, is dead quiet.
Switching antenna feeds has NO effect?

Why does one radio have whine and the other doesn't? I have wracked my brain trying to think of an explanation for the difference.
