FW: AMRAD meeting no show

The Advent of the Cell Phone has in many instances overidden the carrying of
an HT ... at least no one had one last night. When you have one, which
repeater do you use (duh! W4CIA or Fairfax Machine). If we use the Fairfax
Library again I will make sure I bring and HT.

Bill,

Would it have helped if I had brought my HT with me? It is embarrassing to
ask if anyone was monitoring the repeater. It is time I put a 2m rig in the
car.

Oakton is a good location. We have to figure some way to game the system or
knock out those Girl Scouts.

Karl,

Sorry you were missed.

Our biggest problem is the Fairfax County Library. George got beat out by
the Girl Scouts when it came to having the meeting at Oakton ... seems as
though they pressed the return key two or three heartbeats before he pressed
his when making the reservation for Oakton. The library does not let you
make standing arrangements for several months, they want it to be a
competition on a monthly basis so things get interesting at midnight on the
1st of each month.

The main library is a real mess to get into. They make you climb steps
because the elevator is not enabled for entry (works for departure) after
hours even though you have a key card. I honestly think they take this
stance to totally discourage groups from using the rooms when the main
library is closed. Last night they even had the bathrooms locked and
several folks were really crossing their legs before we left. Why does one
have to lock the bathrooms in a secure area? I have told them that handicap
access is difficult to impossible when the elevator doesn't work in the
upward direction and their reply is the elevator access can't be changed.

I apologize for not sticking a cell phone number in the email concerning the
garage situation. My error, I take responsibility.

Oh yes,

I brought a number of members up from the lower level at 7:20 PM and 7:25
PM. Rob made a trip to both levels after that.

My understanding is the library in McLean will be finished sometime this
summer. We never had these problems there. We also don't have the problem
in Oakton since there is a ground level entrance to the room from the
parking lot after hours. We just have to get George to hit the return key a
little quicker to beat the Girl Scouts out.
