I was lucky enough to fly the French Concorde in the late 70s or early
80s. I was working at channel 9, and we flew to and from Paris for a
shooting of PM Magazine. We shot a lot while in the air, so I didn't
get to savor it too much. I can say that it was somewhat cramped, and
it was neat to feel the windows being warm instead of cool at mach 1+.

We even got to shoot in the cockpit during flight. I wish those tapes
had not been thrown out during channel 9's move in 1992.

I think our government is waiting for private enterprise to provide
space travel, so all of our tax dollars can go entitlement programs
instead. Let's say we all go out and buy some Estes rocket engines, and
strap them to a nice big cardboard tube. Yeah, that will work.

The GPS saga isn't the only federal criminal malfeasance, as Mike would
say. But, I digress....

It's amazing to think that we could fly to Europe from the Dulles in just about three hours in last quarter of the 20th century, but it takes nearly eight hours in the first and second decade of the 21st century. I wish I could have had the opportunity to fly on it. Continental travel within the USA was banned in 1976 due to the public's protest over sonic booms. In its earlier days, I think it did indeed fly into San Francisco. Sheesh... today, we can't even build railroads to exceed 90mph or so within the USA. Now, what do we have that even qualifies for a space program?
