you probably didn't read far enough. the Foundation Trilogy dovetails with the Robot Series. the 4th Law arises in the final novels of the series to deal with the contradiction created by the 1st Law's logical extension. as a result, it becomes clear why Seldon had to create psychohistory to save both species. -mo
