want to buy a part

It is a situation where you don't know the stress the other cap was placed
under and its condition. It is a good idea when one fails to replace both
at the same time.

Subject: want to buy a part

Hi all,

Have a clients Astron RS 50M here.
Seems it 'blew' a main filter cap.
It's a mess.

Anyhow, I need one or possibly two of the big filter caps.

This example says

Powerlytic

50000-25dc

Here is a link to a photo of the failed part.

The rest of the PSU is a mess but fixable.

The client told me he used it for battery charging, and apparently used it
as a battery stand as well.

So when one battery 'blew up' and spilled acid in the unit.

Did not find too much evidence of that.

Mostly the cover paint got messed up, the rest is dirty.

Just for the record, it came out of a car stereo shop, not part of a ham's
collection.

Had to lift the heat sink out of the way to get to the hold down clamp for
the big cap.

If you run through the rest of the photos of the set

Will have to go through the unit with the vac and brush to remove most of
the dust.

The plan is to attend the TACO's meeting today if possible.

If you have something bring it along.

Replacement parts from Mouser run between $40 amd 110 bucks per cap.

Would rather pay an AMRAD member who has one for sale.

Thanks in advance.

Mike
