I'm guessing he got moved out into the garage when his wife discovered what he had done to that gorgeous polished table top. He's probably still sleeping out there now.

Honestly, though, if the guy can't blow up an electrolytic capacitor - he should have tried a tantalum.

John Logie Baird did exactly the same thing in the 1920s during his early experiments on television. However, lacking a Radio Shack digital voltmeter, he concluded that just a quick dab with a fingertip would be a suitable substitute. As a result, he nearly invented teleportation, but the wall stopped him.   :-)
