A message from Andrea, KG4IUM. She recently gave a talk at AMRAD about
youth and ham radio.

Hi all,

I know it’s short notice, but I just wanted to remind anyone going to the
Manassas Hamfest this weekend to bring your kids and grandkids because
there will a Youth Lounge. This is a concept that’s been a feature in
Dayton’s ARRL EXPO for over 10 years now. It’s basically a place for young
hams and prospective hams to hang out, meet each other, learn about ham
radio, do activities, and even operate! Thanks to a partnership between
Prince William County 4H and the Ole Virginia Hams and thanks to support
from many local hams and the ARRL, the Manassas Hamfest will have its
first-ever Youth Lounge this year. The Youth Lounge will be open while the
hamfest is going on, on Sunday from 9 AM to 2 PM in the 4H Children’s Barn
at the Prince William County fairgrounds. Activities include fox hunts,
scavenger hunts, Morse Code bracelets, QSL card making, Morse Code keyer
making, and an HF station. There will also be snacks and prizes! Youth
under age 16 get free admission to the hamfest. For more information on
the hamfest, go to http://manassashamfest.org/manassashamfest_002.htm.

73 and see you at the hamfest!
Andrea
