LADEE Launch

Friday, September 6, 2013

11:27 pm EDT

Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at Wallops Flight Facility

The upcoming launch of the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment
Explorer launch is historic for Goddard. This is the first time the
Minotaur V rocket will launch from the Wallops Flight Facility. It is
also the first time a WFF launch will reach lunar orbit. The Lunar Laser
Communication Demonstration onboard the spacecraft has the potential to
change how data is transferred from space.

If you want to be part of this historic event, below is information on
public viewing locations and visibility from the east coast.

Two public viewing locations have been established:

Robert Reed Park, 4083 Main Street, Chincoteague Island, and

Beach Road between Chincoteague and Assateague Islands

Each location will feature a launch countdown and NASA personnel to
discuss the LADEE mission. The Robert Reed Park location will also offer
a live broadcast on a big-screen projector.

Because of safety considerations, the beach on Assateague Island will
close at 7:00 p.m. on launch day and will not be available for launch
viewing. It is also expected that the NASA Visitor Center at Wallops
will reach capacity and close early. WFF will be closed to employees not
on official business.

Dependent on cloud cover, the launch will be visible along the east
coast, from Canada to South Carolina. This website provides graphics on
visibility by location. Scroll down the page for the map of the east
coast visibility: http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/scitech/display.cfm

Up-to-date information and live streaming of the launch can be found at

We wish the LADEE team and the WFF launch team all the best!
