This is based on Elliot Williams book for Maker Media, Make: AVR
Programming, Learning to Write Software for Hardware (
http://shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920028161.do) which was released in January
and is based on his popular HacDC microcontroller workshop series.  It
teaches how to access the AVR microcontroller at the register level in C
which provides a great deal of power and flexibility.
