O'Reilly will hold a free webcast on 3D printing Wednesday April 30 at 4PM:

Among various topics it will address "the design process for brainstorming
and concepting new products". This must be a process for those who are
unable to conceptualize new products.

 

What we hams need from 3D printers are parameterized designs of commonly
used objects. I have in mind a typical bathtub style project enclosure. You
could enter the height, width and depth and get a box with no drafting
needed. Other items: spacers, standoffs, push rods, knobs, ferrules,
bushings, pulleys and gears.
