Opinions on safety of dropbox ???

In my opinion, the object lesson there is: two is one, one is none. 

If it's important, multiple geographically diverse copies is not optional. If you put your irreplaceable  8000 photos on any storage medium, local or remote, without another copy somewhere else, then you get no sympathy from me when they poof.
