Sarnoff was one nasty nasty dude.
He simply stole Armstrong's patents on 
FM and the Superhet and then bankrupted
him with un-ending legal wrangling
when Armstrong tried to sue.
Armstrong committed suicide.

BTW: George Heilmeier demonstrated
a *color* LCD TV display in the
late 60s at Sarnoff Labs near
Princeton. The Picture Tube division 
of RCA went ballistic and the project was
shut down and buried long enough for
the patents to run out before LCDs
were re-invented again. RCA tried 
to enforce them but they were up 
against the Japanese who told them
to pound sand. As a result, all that
work RCA did got used against them.
