stabs from the past

Cool!
Clean your drive heads and felt pads pretty good after each floppy use, otherwise you might get a white powder on them, and then scratches on the media. (alcohol ok on heads, but pads should not get wet. No pads on double-sided drives!!) Also, don’t close the floppy door until the machine has had power for a few seconds, otherwise the BANG of the heads at power-up might destroy the media. Depending on drive manufacturer.

I still have original IBM and MS Dos disks back to 1.something, and Windows 3.1 and GEM, and MS assembler, along with very early Linux (0.95?) floppies. I also have my original IBM 5150 (five-slot) computer, less CGA monitor.

I also have CP/M and MP/M, plus most of the CP/M, North Star, and NJ CP/M user groups disks. Along with an IMSAI, two Altairs, and a Xerox 820 computer. Most still run, with Shuggart 400 or 800 drives.

I have Autocad for CP/M, but not for DOS/Windows anymore. At least, I haven’t found those disks yet....

How about a nice game of chess?

Subject: stabs from the past

This time of year, when it is dark a lot, I sometime get nostalgic and root through the back spaces of the basement.
Poems, drawings, diary snips and old love letters, but wait, I found a box of floppy disks! In it were my original MS Dos 6 disks, windows 3.11 disks and
a set I've been looking all over for, my Autocad Light for windows disks. I even have a machine with a floppy drive. I'll see if I can read any of these antiques.
