At Patrick's suggestion I'm going to give it a go with my Mooshimeter, but it only has 1s resolution, meaning it might or might not see anything at all.

Far better (and more dramatic for yelling at people) would be 1000 samples/second DVM, so one could see the actual waveform as things go sideways.
