I got a deal on some RC gear. The old
nicad transmitter batteries were shot in one. Nicads are
now quite dated it seems. I bought some NiMH (nickel metal hydride)
AA cells to build a pack which I will do. I also ran into LiFePO4
( lithium iron phosphat) batteries for sale and bought a built up
9.9 volt pack. The LiFePO4 batteries seem pretty nice, not as
spooky as LiPo, but much better than Nicads or NiMH in capacity. I
learned a bit about them at http://www.powerstream.com/LLLF.htm I
like the 95% charge mode. The nicad pack I'm replacing was only 600
milliamp hour capacity. The LiFePO4 pack is 2200 milliamp/hour so
what the heck 95% don't seem like a big deal. We live in amazing
times don't we?

Oh BTW one of the old 72 MHz RC transmitters has a synthesized RF
module installed so I can use any channel by turning two rotary
switches. The other transmitter is a Futaba also with a RF module,
but fixed on a 72 MHz channel. I've seen 6 meter RF modules for
sale and they will fit in that futaba rig, so I'm keeping my eye out
for one.

I got five 72 MHz receivers in the deal and one 75 MHz 3
channel. That band is used for cars and boats only. I'll be looking
for a 6 meter receiver.
