<span>Paul N2PJ is heading up club support for our local Occoquan Boy
Scout troop for Jamboree On The Air as part of their Camporee weekend
at the Boy Scout camp located at Rock Enon Springs near Gore Va on
Saturday October 17th from 10AM - 5:30 PM. It looks like Paul has
enough operators committed (although more are welcome) to support the
on-site remote stations. Contact Paul directly if you are interested in
supporting the effort or want more information. The different positions
will be operating under the 1x1 call sign of K4J and most likely will
be on 20/40 meter phone (although other bands/modes will be in use as
well).</span></div>

<div>This is where anyone at home on Saturday could help out. The focus
of the effort at the camp will be to teach basic radio operations and
walk each scout through establishing contact using the radio. Anyone
that would like to help support the JOTA effort can operate from home
and respond to the repeated "CQ Jamboree" and "CQ JOTA" calls from the
scouts. It is really helpful to have some folks that respond to and
engage the scouts with a few questions about their scouting activities.
They really light up with interest once the radio turns from a staticky
box into a way to really communicate. We all have the opportunity here
to help some young people develop an interest in learning the craft and
getting their ham license. Just a few people willing to sit through an
hour or two rag chewing a bit with the scouts makes a big difference.
If you can commit to a band/mode/time of operation, please let Paul
know and he can coordinate the contacts.</div>
