I might have burned out my first 5.8
video transmitter. It was a bare board and I had to solder on
some components. It stopped transmitting or stopped sending
video, anyway I didn't see anything on the monitor so I ordered
another transmitter already assembled. Well actually I ordered 2
transmitters. It takes so long to get stuff from China that I
forgot I ordered the first one. They of course arrived within a
couple of days of each other, the second one being a pleasant
surprise. One is .2 Watts and the other is .600 Watts. I tested
the .6 Watt today. I thought I'd use the simple vertical dipole
from the .2 Watt rig as it is easier to handle than the mushroom
antenna on the .6 Watt rig. Surprise surprise, one is SMA and the
other RP-SMA! The SMA adapters I ordered are in the mail, but I
used the mushroom antenna today. My receiver is 8 channel and
uses a dip switch for channel selection. The new transmitter is
32 channel and has a tiny single digit LED display. You push a
tiny button to step through the channels. Since it is single
digit and there are 32 channels there is a blinking action which I
assume is first and second numbers, but to tell the truth I had
trouble reading it so I just stepped through the channels till an
image came up on the receiver, which it finally did. I was using
a used cheapo camera (out of a baby monitor) and the image weren't
that good, but I don't think that was the transmitters fault. It
was odd as I stepped through the channels, the screen (attached to
RX) would blink for a second just after the button push. I wonder
what that would look like on a spectrum analyzer? The transmitter
almost got too hot to hold, it has a very tiny heat sink on it.
All and all things went well. I will use this rig for FPV (First
Person View) on a drone.
