Being a pre-boomer I got to see it all unfold, firsthand. In the
fifties I started building a fallout shelter in my backyard and
became a member of the Air Force's Ground Observer Corp. In the
sixties I participated in SAC's preparations surrounding the
blockade of Cuba. Indeed those were exciting times that affected
everyone's thinking. Just as with depression era folks, remnants of
those experiences will forever be with us. Bug out bags and
contingency planning endures. <span class="moz-smiley-s8"><span>
