I spent a little time in
my Ranger pickup working HF for Field Day. I've been using the
same setup for quite a few years now, it works. I have a screw
driver antenna on a home build mount bolted and screwed to the
left side of the trucks bed. I leave the coax and power line
for the screw driver on the truck so setup takes about a 1/2
hour. I made 15 contacts on a mix or 40, 20 and 15 meters. Two
of those contacts were from across the street from Woodbridge
Wireless whose FD site I visited. Band conditions were just OK
and there was a lot of fading at times. I worked out to the
West coast a bit and the SW into TX and NM. I go a few
northern mid West stations too. I did work another Mobile
station who was in SW Virginia. That is always a high light for
me as us mobiles don't get cut no slack from the ARRL, no bonus
points and so on. Oh well I had a blast. I took the antenna
off the truck and I know just were it is for next time.
