<div dir="ltr"><br><div class="gmail_quote">---------- Forwarded message ----------<br>From: <b class="gmail_sendername">Ethan Waldo</b> <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:ethan.waldo@gmail.com">ethan.waldo@gmail.com</a>></span><br>Date: Wed, Sep 21, 2016 at 6:30 AM<br>Subject: [HacDC:Spaceblimp] Spaceblimp 6 launching on 10/8<br>To: <a href="mailto:harc-list@hacdc.org">harc-list@hacdc.org</a>, Blabber <<a href="mailto:Blabber@hacdc.org">Blabber@hacdc.org</a>>, Members <<a href="mailto:members@hacdc.org">members@hacdc.org</a>><br>Cc: <a href="mailto:spaceblimp@hacdc.org">spaceblimp@hacdc.org</a><br><br><br><div dir="ltr">The Spaceblimp team has been hard at work preparing for an early fall launch of a high altitude balloon dubbed <a href="http://wiki.hacdc.org/index.php/HacDC_Spaceblimp_6" target="_blank">Spaceblimp 6</a>.  We would like to cordially invite anyone interested in joining us for the launch near <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/Strasburg,+VA+22657/@38.9926676,-78.3732661,14z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x89b5beca53bf7d63:0xc6c6351811afff60!8m2!3d38.9887199!4d-78.358616" target="_blank">Strasburg, VA</a>.  I will send more logistics details closer to the launch date so you'll know exactly where to meet up for setup as well as a time closer to the release of the balloon.<div><br></div><div>We have a few experienced hams but could certainly use the assistance of more experts.  We will be flying a <a href="http://www.radiometrix.com/content/bim1h" target="_blank">500mW Radiometrix BiM1H transceiver</a> on 144.390 as our primary APRS tracker with GPS.  We also have a <a href="http://www.yaesu.com/indexVS.cfm?cmd=DisplayProducts&ProdCatID=111&encProdID=783160E8AAE4642A8751C75821666E16" target="_blank">Yaesu VX-1R</a> with GPS we'll be running on UHF as a digipeater for your enjoyment.  Our hope is to not only track this from the ground, but also from the W3HAC station for those that can't make it out of town.  Lastly, our payload includes a GSM-based SMS tracker with GPS that will activate at lower altitudes to hopefully further assist in recovery efforts.  We are going to be shooting for a fast ascent in order to pop quicker so our chase team won't have to travel too far and keep out of DC air space.</div><div><br></div><div>If the idea of helping recover a high altitude balloon from who knows where sounds interesting to you, we can definitely use the help.  This is also a great opportunity for unlicensed folks to foxhunt since you don't need a license to receive amateur radio.  We should have a few sets of ham equipment but the more the merrier.</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks to all and we look forward to seeing some of you out there for the launch.</div><div><br></div><div>Ethan Waldo and the Spaceblimp team</div><div>KF5UFH</div></div><span class="HOEnZb"><font color="#888888">
