Earlier this year I towed my 94 Ranger to
the scrap yard. I had it set up for mobile ops, particularly
Field Day. I pulled the setup out of the old truck before junking
it. I had the 12 volt line running right to the bolts on the
battery clamps with inline fuses on pos and neg wires. It was a
bit awkward, but worked for 15 years. I now have a 2008 Ranger
and I looked in the engine compartment today for a good hook up
point. There is a large pair of wires (1/4 inch or more) running
from the battery 18 inches to the engine compartment fuse box.
They are bolted on and it looks like a good place to hook up.
About 2~3 inches away is a ground bold welded to the chassis. A
concern I have is moving the connection away from directly on the
battery. Will RF gremlins be encouraged to mess with the trucks
systems? Should I put chokes on the #6 wire I'm using? Should I
put a capacitor between pos and ground at the trucks fuse box? I
guess going the other way anything I do to keep the radio from
putting RF into the truck will also work in keeping truck
generated RF out of my rig, is that true?
