<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">Thanks to the many of you who responded to our February ACC update, and especially for encouraging me to continue to send the monthly ARRL “leads” list of freshly minted Hams in VA. I heard from one club that thinks their new member recruitment doubled last month due to taking the time sending welcome letters to the new Hams on the list. Also, thanks to you all who have updated the ARRL Club data base over the past couple months. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">Fair warning:</span></strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;"> You got some “homework” assigned below ... I do grade on a curve. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">VA Section Convention</span></strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">: As you know, our interim Section Manager is finishing his term and Jack Smith, KE4LWT will be installed on April 1<sup>st</sup>. Jack is busy pulling the team together, and we’ll hear more from the Section Manager team at the ARRL VA Section Convention in Annandale, VA, just outside of Washington DC. If you can’t make it to NOVA, it will be broadcasted live. (The hamfest – WINTERFEST – starts at 8am). <strong>Homework:</strong> Please pass this info about the Convection along to your Club membership, as we’re hoping for a huge turnout virtually as well as in person. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">Geolocating VA Clubs:</span></strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;"> I needed a better way to know where the ARRL affiliated Clubs were in VA, so w/ the help of some super geeks, we took some time over the last month to plot your Club’s location on a map. Also, if your club isn’t correctly located on the map, and the Culpeper Club comes to mind as maybe the lat/long isn’t correct, let me know. <strong>Suspense date: 27 March</strong></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">This is the second of a series of periodic emails to the Club Contact, in my capacity as the ARRL VA Section Affiliated Club Coordinator. I’m still working out the kinks of this email process. I have a sense that some of you are getting my email sent directly to your spam folder. Also, I’m attaching a file to this email that I’d like your input on (see below) , and don’t know if it will get stripped by the IP servers either on your end, or mine. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">First, let’s welcome the Old Dominion University ARC as the newest Roanoke Division club. At this point, in the Commonwealth we have 4 ARRL affiliated collegiate clubs (ODU, VT, Eastern Mennonite U and Radford U) and the Floyd County HS club. I know there are other Virginia school clubs that are not affiliated with ARRL. I need your feedback on if (and then, how) we can promote more school related radio clubs. If you, or a member of your club would like to work w/ me on this exciting project, send me an email, and we’ll create a work group.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">Second, one of the benefits of being an ARRL affiliated club is that the League has a referral service of 1) new Hams, 2) upgraded Hams, 3) new ARRL members, and 4) Lapsed Hams. I’ve attached the latest listing for the Commonwealth, listed by category, and then by city for the month of December. Please have your Membership or ELMER committee look at the list. I know of at least one club that uses a similar list to send out monthly welcome letters to new hams in the vicinity of their club. Regardless if the effort of sending welcome letters generates new members, welcoming new Hams to the hobby is a smart thing to do. Please provide me some feedback if this list is useful, and I should continue sending out to you all.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">Third, I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank those of you who updated your club data in the ARRL clubs data base, based on my email last month. The best time to update the ARRL club data base is right after your Club officer elections. The League wishes that your club information be reviewed/updated as once every two years. Second, advanced tickets sales have started, and the advanced tickets are considerably cheaper than buying an attendance ticket at the door on Sunday, March 27<sup>th</sup>. The Convention is being held in conjunction with WINTERFEST.
