Subject: Marty Davidoff to Speak on Satellites Next Tuesday

Join the Columbia Amateur Radio Association (CARA) on Tuesday May 26th
at 7:30 p.m. for a presentation by Marty Davidoff (K2UBC) on the history
of the amateur radio satellite program. He will have a lot of rare old
slides and tell some of the human interest stories that, for various
reasons, never got into print.

The meeting will be held at the Bethany United Methodist Church in
Ellicott City. Take Route 29 north and loop onto Route 40 West. Continue
for about 3 miles until you see the Enchanted Forest Shopping Center
with the large Safeway store. The next traffic light is Bethany Lane;
turn right. Go down about 2 miles. First you will see a church on the
left and about a half mile later there is the Bethany United Methodist
Church on the right.

Local CBS affiliate showed a tape of the G4 outage on the local news (they
were rolling on the CBS newspath at the time).  CBS clock on the screen
showed the outage occurred at 18:11:24 (with a "stay at speed" message on
newspath).  It was a relatively rapid fade, though you could read 18:11:25
on a very sparkly screen.

Kinda cool.  I've never seen a satellite die before (even though I was
watching the tape replay).
