RE: Amateur Radio Project For Orissa (India) Cyclone Victims Project
CC: Paul Rinaldo, AMRAD, Shyam Adhikari, TEIN India Roundtable
Hi AMRAD Members,
Attached please find a letter I have sent to the President of the
Amateur Radio Society of India (ARSI) toward getting a little help
for our emergency communications project to assist the cyclone
victims.
I have sent an email but so far I have not received any response.
If any of you can please make a radio contact with the President of
ARSI or a few members of ARSI to facilitate our project, we would
really appreciate any help from you on this important need to get
started. .
Also, if any of you have an old amateur radio that you would like to
sell or donate for this cause, please contact me . We have commitments
to purchase three used but working radios and would like to increase
the numbers to five radios in the first shipment. I personally am
committed to purchase and donate one those five radios, and I have two
friends who also would like to do the same.
If anyone can find us a good source for buying used radios in nearby
areas, or can advice me as to what to buy and what not to buy, that
would be of great help.
Keep in mind that while the electrical power is back operating in most
of the towns in Orissa, many villages are still without power, thus
some of these radios must be battery operated.
Any technical advice or experience you are able to share with us to
assure use of these radios for emergency communications for hospitals
and emergency relief workers, is most welcome as Shyam and I have
no experience with amateur radios as such.
Thanks and look forward to hearing from you. Attached please find
my email letter to the President of ARSI, MR. Sahruddin in Bombay,
India.
