Ricochet to lose its bounce

Remember Terry with his Ricochet internet modem at tacos?  It looks like 
the Ricochet system will become mute in a few days.

Perhaps some good deals on modems and street light mounted repeaters will 
be coming along.  Can they be converted to a ham band easily?
