Speaker--Drew R. Uplinger
Drew Uplinger is a seasoned marketing, business development, and technology professional who joined Iridium Satellite in June of
2001. As Director of Enhanced Services, he is responsible for leading the development and management of new products and
services on the Iridium network. Drew's primary focus is on the products and services needed by Iridium to expand market share
within the vertical wireless data segments. He has over 16 years of experience developing and deploying new products, new
business opportunities, and start-up initiatives focused on wireless data, wireless Internet, and mobile satellite solutions.
Prior to joining Ztango, Drew was Senior Manager of Data Service Development at Iridium. In this role, he was responsible for the
business planning, service development, and deployment of both circuit switched data and short messaging service (SMS) solutions
on a global basis over the Iridium network. The marketing and distribution of these services and related products were targeted at
industrial (telemetry & workforce automation), horizontal (e-mail and enterprise network access), and government users on a global
basis.
Prior to Iridium, Drew was Director of Mobile Communication Services at GE LogistiCom, a GE Capital communications venture
providing satellite-based narrowband private data services targeting various vertical industry segments. He led many efforts while
working with GE LogistiCom; including the first customer trial rollout, the winning proposal to the U.S. Government for seed funding
for second generation terminal prototypes, and supplementary funding for third generation terminal enabling technologies.
Drew also served as Business Development Manager of Mobile Communications Programs at Lockheed Martin. In this role, he was
part of a Mobile Satellite Services business area start-up within Lockheed Martin (presently Lockheed Martin Global Telecom), which
provided turnkey telecommunications solutions to customers planning to offer mobile satellite services. During his tenure with
Lockheed Martin, Drew led a milestone effort that resulted in securing the organization's first commercial contract in the wireless
telecommunications market - a deal valued at $140 million.
Drew holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and a M.S. in Systems Engineering from the
Virginia Polytechnic and State University. Drew also was selected to, and successfully completed, both GE's Advance Engineering
Program and Management Development Program.
