26.25 Gigaflop supercomputer in a breadbox

Mine's XP, and it has to be defragged manually. Besides, any  
suggestion that my PC is not dreaming I find very disappointing. Two  
other points related to other posts: (1) It is an HP/Compaq,  
admittedly Celeron, and it is painfully slow much of the time -  
caveat emptor. (2) Fortunately, it has no inbuilt Wifey, but I have a  
Wifey plug-in card. As soon as this is plugged in in a signal area,  
the computer disappears off on its own for at least the next half-an- 
hour to exchange selected secrets about me with McAfee, Microsoft and  
goodness knows who else, after which it invariably demands to be re- 
booted (another 30 minutes). I'm not sure whether it is a willing  
participant in this hijacking, and have considered making a tin-foil  
beany for it to save it from the voices.

They say that Google's "search engine farms" are now the biggest  
machine in the world, beating even the telephone network into second  
place. Yes, they're storing everything about us.
