techshop: A great idea

In Menlo Park (San Francisco area), one can join (day access $30, 
monthly membership $100):

    http://techshop.ws/

and use all their advanced tools.

They are considering expanding to other cities (franchising ?)

Is there such workshop in the WDC / VA / MD area? 
And if not, why not?
