I agree - for the money, the eee pc (asus, available at micro center
or via $VENDOR from froogle) is a better deal, even if you factor in a
$200 donation to OLPC on top of the $349 "sweet spot" eee model.

Probably getting a couple for my lab - I'm tired of having my "spare"
Mac laptops be lab boxes.

I respectfully disagree.  Relative to calibrated expectations, the
user interface raggedness and residual minor bugs in MacOS X Leopard
10.5.0 and 10.5.1 are far more disappointing than Vista, and frankly
influence my life a lot more.  Still waiting for the
gratuitous-window-stack-rotation-on-command-tab bug to be fixed
(hoping for 10.5.2).
