American Red Cross considered using these for asset tracking back in 2005/6,
but in the end chose a satellite based UHF solution.
It was planned to use a National freq at around 49MHz, but one of the key
issues against using this was the potential for interference to the ARC
National voice channel at around 47.5MHz.
One other disadvantage was the drain on the power source (at 100watts RF
output), so it was considered suitable only for vehicles in motion.
Only activating the 100watt transmitter when the vehicle was in motion also
overcame the risk of RF exposure to people working in/on the vehicle antenna
deck on the roof.
