I've been thinking about getting one of those Honda EU2000 generators.

They only give out 8A though on the 12v side.  96 watts is not a whole
heck of a lot.  You'd think that it would be more efficient to pull DC
straight out (assuming the alternator is working at 12v, which may be
a bogus assumption).  Turns out to not be the case.  There was an
article in QST a month ago that looked at this, but didn't delve into
the "high 12vdc output quiet generator" question, but...  this is
interesting.

Really is optimized for running through the inverter.
