Hi Mike,
I'll look at the Moxon box. Thanks.

Auspicious lives on Back Creek in Annapolis MD. I run RayTech RNS so I
can (eventually, with this project) get a radar repeater below. I've
used OpenCPN, NavX, MaxSea, and Charts & Tides. They all have their
ups and downs.

With thousands of miles of deliveries behind me I have concluded that
putting off AIS is not a good idea. In my case it was particularly
foolish since I have had the hardware for an embarrassingly long time
(a shoemakers children problem) and just need to get it hooked up.
It's running on my bench as we speak and will be on the boat by the
end of next week. Final integration to make it pretty will happen when
it happens.
I'm with you on the appeal of a Class A transponder at human prices.
It shouldn't be too hard to whip one up but I haven't looked into the
regulatory hurdles. In fairness to the global bureaucracies I think
Class B was their attempt to accomplish that and frankly I think it is
reasonable. We get the big guys on both channels at full rate and
don't clog the channels with our chatter -- it's only a 4X difference
in output rate, right?
