Hi Frank,

There is also the Society of Amateur Radio Astronomers (SARA) found at 
http://www.radio-astronomy.org/

Their email reflector has had some discussion of an RA specific SDR 
project. Some also use the USRP.

Meetings at NRAO Greenbank every Summer plus they are at Dayton every year.
