of *course* that's what Ham Radio is all about!
even better is when you put Ham Radio on a boat!
then you get to own the one thing I always wanted.

I was once interviewed for a local "wet rag"
shortly after we bought our first substantial boat.
when asked what was the best thing about boating, I said

     "You get to own a RADAR!"

i didn't think much about it - i was grinning ear to ear
at the time. but when it came out in print, i took an
unremitting stream of abuse for quite some time.
my only defense was that in the spur of the moment,
that's the first thing that came to mind.

at the moment, i'm trying to come up with a cover story good
enough to let me buy a spectrum analyzer to sort out the
wideband antenna system on the boat.Unfortunately, the 
FUNcube Dongleberry PRO+ Good Deal Whizbang will actually
do what I need and i keep thinking of other toys the same
dollars would buy. The only thing that's missing is the
tracking generator. I see no reason to ever have a spectrum
analyzer without a tracking generator (unless you are doing
something intentionally LPI/LPE and don't wanna worry about
whether the terminator is good enough).
