Uh, there is *nothing* cheap about a boat that big.
the fuel tanks hold 185,000 litres (call it 45,000 gallons)
so a trip to the fuel dock, excuse me, the bunkering barge,
will set you back about $150K assuming you are getting a
decent break for "frequent fueling".
at full speed, she probably burns 250-300 gallons
PER HOUR which is 16.5 knots (about 19 mph). You can do the sums.
Back down at 9-10 knots its probably down to 100 gph, or
10 gallons per mile. (nautical)
the crew is listed as 18 (for 12 guests), so that's noticeably
north of a million per year just for salaries. then add food and
drink - and people that own or charter one of these are not
known for their frugality, so that's another million or so easy.
so a million for fuel, a million for crew, and 2 million for
the good life, that's 4 million a year not counting taxes and
insurance - that's probably another million or so. so were
at 5 million a year on an 80 million dollar boat - that
would be good - the rule of thumb is 10% per year. and we
didn't include any escrow for maintenance, so yeah, it's easy
to see how it gets to 8 million.
This is the classic white elephant. Sure you can steal it,
but then what the hell do you do with it?
