I had a *serious* course in Engineering Physics at Kansas State
University back in the early 1960s and our professor was Dr. Robert
Katz. His research work was on the magnetic monopole and included a
paper that is much quoted if you Google search.

He was looking around to see what the monopole would look like and what
kind of phenomena it would create. I don't think he was ever able to
find one. His students were wondering if he would succeed. He had very
interesting lectures which I still remember snippets of to this day.
