From the PVRC reflector, related to HSMM-MESH networks:
They are looking for towers in Maryland, but there is no reason to not
expand the concept to Northern Virginia. Backbone ultimately to connect
to local HSMM-MESH networks where they exist.
Contact WN3R if interested.

A group of hams, including yours truly, is interested in building a high
speed Hinternet backbone using radios. We will use Ubiquiti equipment:
small directional antennas with attached radios operating at 5 GHZ. Well
located towers will have a second OMNI antenna(s) for connection by local
clients (band not yet determined) (very much like a WISP would do)
If you want to lend us tower space near the top of your tower, please reply
offline to wn3r.us at gmail.com with the following info and more information
will be sent to you:
Contact info
Tower Height
Your address
Your longitude and latitude
Whether or not power is available at the base (if no power, we will provide
solar panel and batteries)
We are also looking for volunteers to climb towers to do the install. Let us
know if you want to help fund the equipment installed on your tower. The
radio is mounted to the antenna and power is PoE at 24 vdc, 1 amp.
We are looking to include as many counties as possible in the state of
Maryland and the city of Washington DC
Once the backbone is built we plan to fill in coverage with HSMM-MESH
equipment operating with special software developed by hams.
If you can help connect us with those who control rooftop space willing to
work with hams, please tell us that as well.
Many thanks.
