This one-day IEEE Northern Virginia Section Hands-On Workshop is intended to
introduce professionals to the Raspberry Pi, a Linux operating system (OS)
based, credit-card-sized single-board computer developed by the Raspberry Pi
Foundation with the intention of providing an inexpensive hardware and
freeware software platform for continuing education, innovation and STEM
outreach.
This Hands-On Workshop includes the Raspberry Pi Model B board with a
preconfigured 8 GB SD memory card and the text Raspberry Pi User Guide,
Gareth Halfacree and Eben Upton, as well as a power supply and wireless USB
adapter. A USB keyboard and mouse and a HDMI video display with cable will
be provided on loan from DeVry for use during the Workshop as well as an
Ethernet cable and connection to the internet via DeVry's on-campus network
facilities.
The participants will have a hands-on opportunity to investigate the
development of embedded systems using the Raspberry Pi, Raspian Linux OS,
Python programming language and external hardware peripherals.
The low cost Raspberry Pi hardware and freeware software, including the
simple Scratch programming language, provide an opportunity for
professionals to engage in STEM outreach. Be sure to register by 6:00pm on
May 31. Registration is limited to 30. If seats are available after
registration closes, on-site registration will be available for $50 more.
Optional lunch selection is available for $10, or participants may visit
nearby restaurants for lunch on their own.
