Andre' and I are making a group buy of the Broadcom "Wiced Sense" Internet
of Things Development Kit. The item costs $20 plus prorated shipping
expected to be less than $3 per unit. Pickup will be at Tacos. *Please
e-mail the reflector by Saturday, September 6 if you are interested.*
*Details:*
The Wiced Sense consists of a small Bluetooth Smart - also known as
Bluetooth 4.0 powered by a coin cell battery with six low powered onboard
micro electro-mechanical systems sensors (MEMS):
1. Gyroscope for motion control, gaming and GPS;
2. Accelerometer for impact and vibration recognition;
3. E-compass to enable position detection, motion activation and map
rotation;
4. Barometer for smartwatches and weather stations;
5. Humidity and
6. Temperature sensor for heating, ventilation and smart home devices.
Bundled with it is an accompanying smartphone app that Broadcom claims can
be connected and running development programs in minutes.
Using the development kit, users are able to create firmware for products
that don't exist yet, exponentially speeding up the process from concept to
market.
Example use cases include APRS, weather station, data logging, wireless
gesture control of a radio, or a pet tracker that sounds an alarm if your
pet leaves a certain area, but the important thing is that the only limit
is the developer's imagination. The main purpose of the device is to help
developers create brand new ideas and test them without the need for
expensive prototypes.
The Wiced Sense is compatible with both iOS and Android phones, and offers
full encryption, certificate signing and verification.
