BBHN Workshop

The Broadband Hamnet workshop that was held in Manassas this afternoon was
worth the journey. Several folks got their WRT54G routers flashed with the
latest Hamnet software and we got to see what would occur when more than 20
routers were occupying channel 1.

One individual had two video cameras attached to his router streaming video.
One of his streams was from a camera attached to a Raspberry Pi, the other
was from what appeared to be a Logitech Pan / Tilt camera. The video looked
good but the latency was pretty bad when all of the routers started to
occupy the channel.

There was also a VOIP phone system set up with one handset per table. The
audio latency was quite evident when you heard what the person you could see
a half second after he said it. This was caused by the number of routers
occupying channel 1.

KE4N was using a pair of Raspberry Pi's in place of the WRT54G router to
join the network of routers. If you are interested in trying a little of
the Broadband Hamnet on your Raspberry Pi the software can be found at;

Clarence Meese, KC4NM, organized today's workshop and will be organizing
another one at some point in the future. Maybe Terry, WA5NTI, will be kind
enough to let us know when the next gathering will be.
