For those of you that are into neat toys (possibly very useful), Elektor magazine has a sale right now on the Red Pitaya board. It is VERY interesting, as it is a Xilinx FPGA/SOC (Zynq I think) board with an integrated 2-channel, 125MHz sampling (14-bit) ADC, 2-channel 125MHz DAC, and slower ADCs, DACs, and other junk, all on a credit-sized board. It is billed as an instrument or measurement tool. While it claims to be open-source, some are upset because schematics are not available. That doesn’t bother me, as long as there is enough other documentation and examples that I can play with.
They also already have firmware to make it an oscilloscope (50MHz), signal generator, spectrum analyzer, SDR!, LCR meter, and other things.
Normally the board sells for $500 or so, Elektor is selling it at slightly over half-off! It’s only $239 if you have an Elektor subscription, slightly more if you don’t ($266). Elektor also has option packages available.
I don’t have one yet, but just ordered one. It appears to be a very nice board for the price. And, it has been converted to an SDR, as shown on a recent Hackaday.
I’m on travel at the moment, but can send more info when I get back home.
