Chinese electronic markets

In the D.C. area in the 60s and 70s, we had SASCO on King St. in Alexandria (two floors of stuff), and RITCO in a warehouse in Annandale, behind the lawn mower repair shop off 236. SASCO was always fun to visit, but RITCO was strange. The guy would follow you all around, like he didn’t really want to sell anything.
Then there was Arcade in Annandale, I loved talking to Vern and the other owner. Vic Clark (W4KFC) would regularly show up there. And the Heathkit store in Rockville, along with another parts store in Rockville. Plus the electronics surplus store (with various names Surplus Electronics, Electronics Plus, etc...) in College Park. And the ham store in Woodbridge (now HRO), and lest we NOT forget, EEB in Vienna.
But, that guy at RITCO was strange... I can’t remember his name.

I remember the guy upstairs with the green visor. Prices right, just too heavy to carry back to Kansas. N0UU

Richard,
Yes, that reminded me of Radio Row as well. When I was a teenager in the mid-1960s my father and I used to cruise through the Radio Row shops looking for WW2 surplus bargains. That was quite an experience. My dad was looking for parts (meters in particular) for his boat, and I was interested in components for my budding ham radio station in the basement of the family house in New Jersey. The BC348N receiver used in my Novice station came from Radio Row. My Novice test (remember those days?) was administered by Sy Denby in the back room of his Niagara Radio Supply shop. A Google search on "Sy Denby Radio Row" brings up several interesting links about Sy and the Radio Row scene. The world of electronics sure has changed since those days.

I've never seen anything quite like this -- sort of Dayton on steroids.
A good place to be if you're interested in experimenting and you have
a lot of time.
Reminds me of Radio Row in Manhattan. It was replaced by the
Twin Towers that fell down on 9/11. I worked there one summer
vacation and while there was nothing like your videos, it impressed
me at the time.

I've read descriptions of places like this that used to exist in the USA.
